preppy text tutorial (style two)

Program used: Photoshop CS3.
Difficulty: Moderately easy.

what you'll be learning:

Type out your text in black. Kern your text and choose your font. This is what I have:

Step two:

Double click the text layer and go to Gradient Overlay. Make your gradient using whichever colours you want and make the angle 0, not 90. Click OK and make a new layer underneath your text. Then select the text layer again and press ctrl+E.
This is what I have:

Step three:

Double click your text layer and go to inner glow. Make the blend mode Soft Light, the opacity 60 and the colour Black. Also make the size 7 and make sure the source is on Edge not center.
Don't click OK yet, go to Pattern Overlay and select a thick stripe pattern (if you don't have one, here is one >> click!)
Make the Blend Mode screen and the opacity 8%. Click OK.
Make a layer underneath the text layer and click on your text layer and press ctrl+E.
Here is what I have:

Step Four:

Now double click your text layer and add a white stroke at 2px. Then make a new layer underneath your text and go back on your text layer and click Ctrl+E.
Double click on your text layer again and add a scanline stroke of 1px with the position as Center. Make a new layer underneath your text and go back on your text layer and click Ctrl+E.

This is what I have now:

Step Five:

Double click on your text layer and add a gradient stroke at 1px. Use the same gradient as the one you used on your main text.
Don't click OK, instead go to Drop Shadow. Give your text a drop shadow with a distance of 0, Opacity of 25, Spread of 20, and a size of 5.
Make a layer underneath the text layer and click on your text layer and press ctrl+E.

And you're done! This is my final product:
